Helping Solve Back Problems - Stretching Your Back
There is a back stretcher for every problem. One of my personal favorites targets the lowest/lumbar region of the back. This area seems to be one of the areas most prone to back pain - this may be due to the fact that it's one of the most difficult areas to stretch. The back stretcher that targets the lumbar region is actually just a straight piece with a curved piece lying on top of it. The user merely lies on the curved piece and relaxes for a period of time. Definitely one of the more attractive ways of relieving back pain.
Not every back stretcher is that easy though. There are definitely more complex devices available. Basically for most models the goal is to stretch the discs in your spinal column. Back pain is most often caused by the discs in the spinal column compressing and exerting pressure on the surrounding nerves. Stretching them out relieves this problem at least temporarily. There are standing models, sitting models and even back bend models.. Some of the full back options have exercise components as well - such as abdominal machines. However, if you plan on using the abdominal component be sure to strengthen your back as well so as not to aggravate your problem. Prices also vary widely from $21-$400. Therefore, have a good idea of what you want before you make your actual purchase.
Back stretchers are a great way to not only treat existing medical problems but also prevent future ones. Many people spend their exercise time focusing on their arms, abs, glutes when exercising and neglect their back. This is a big mistake. While these aspects of exercise are important, your back holds your whole body together and is essential for overall health. A few minutes each workout stretching your back can prevent a host of medical problems.
Those that are prone to back problems are those that are typically prone to other diseases as well. Those that lead a sedentary lifestyle or are overweight are likely candidates. However, those that have jobs that require sitting at a computer or lifting heavy things are also prone to issues. It is also not a good idea to work out your abdominal muscles to the exclusion of your back muscles.
In conclusion there is a wide variety of back stretchers on the market. In my research none have been shown to have any negative side effects as long as they are used properly. Therefore, please learn how to and remember to stretch your back in some shape or form on a regular basis and it will contribute to you having a long and healthy life.
