Protein

Before birth, these beneficial proteins are carried in the bloodstream of the mother cow; however, the mother cow begins to reabsorb these proteins after six to eight hours after her calf is born. This makes the first milking of colostrum the key in obtaining the highest amount of proteins available by the mother cow. 24 hours after birth casein and albumin are the only beneficial proteins found in the mother's milk.

Colostral Fat.

Some people and companies believe that the milk fat in bovine colostrum either does not have any purpose or can deteriorate the product quicker. The Traditional Use Of Dairy Produce: Part 4 - Eggs (cont.).

Preparation Of Basic Foods: Dairy Produce.

Eggs: Part 2

Poaching: boil 40mm water in a frying pan; add a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of vinegar. Crack egg into cup, inspect and tip into water. Turn down the heat. Gather the white around the unbroken yolk with a spoon and simmer for 3-4 mins. Lift out with a fish slice, drain and serve on hot buttered toast.

Scrambling: beat the eggs well; add salt, pepper to taste and a dash of milk. Melt enough butter to cover the bottom of a frying pan. Cook the eggs slowly, stirring continuously. Cook in a basin floating on boiling water, if preferred. Serve when nearly completely set, in about 5 minutes.

Fried Eggs: Melt enough butter to easily cover the bottom of the frying pan. Tip the egg(s) in gently and gather the whites around the yolks. When the white has solidified, baste the yolk to taste and remove whole with a fish slice.

Baked: lightly grease a fireproof dish and slide the eggs gently into it. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and butter to taste. Bake in a moderate oven and serve in the same pan after the whites have set.

Omelette: buy a pan and keep it only for omelettes! The base should be smooth and clean. Allow two eggs per person; beat lightly and add salt and pepper to taste. Heat enough butter to cover the base of the pan. When the fat is hot, pour in the eggs; as it sets, raise the handle up and draw set mixture up, allowing the liquid egg to run down onto the hot pan. When all is set, tilt the pan forward and roll the omelette over. Serve immediately on a hot plate. It can be filled with almost anything, before being rolled over.

Pouring Custard: beat 2-3 eggs per 1 pint of milk lightly. Heat the milk and pour gradually over the eggs; add sugar and flavouring; cook in a double pan or jug and hot water until the required thickness has been reached. If it is not to be served immediately, pour a thin layer of water onto the top to prevent a skin forming.

Baked Custard: start as above and then transfer the custard into a greased dish; sprinkle lightly with nutmeg and place dish in water to halfway up its sides. Bake at 350 F for 35-45 mins; test its solidity by inserting a knife - it should be clean on removal.

Steamed Custard: as above, but cook in a steamer or pan of boiling water. Cooking time about the same.

Custard Tarts: pour pouring custard into unbaked pastry cases and bake in the oven for 40-50 minutes. A little jam can be placed at the base of the pastry case first, if desired.

My Foolproof Diet Strategy

I'd like to share a quick story with you, now that you're here. This has been a really interesting year for me, full of ups and downs.

Unfortunately, the company I work for went out of business last year. I was left in a situation where I couldn't find a job, so I spent most of my time online, pursuing some hobbies and looking for jobs. Unfortunately, I gained a lot of weight during this time.

Not knowing what to do, I realized that it had subtly happened as I snuck in some extra snacks and soft drinks each day. I decided to go cold turkey on a few things, combined with a disciplined fitness regime, and I've already lost half of that weight in about 60 days' time.

Lucky for me, I've disciplined myself and find myself much lighter than I was just a few short months ago? You may be wondering how I've done it, and it isn't nearly as hard as you might think.

The biggest thing that I did was the fact that I eliminated any and all sodas from my every day drinking habits. I don't care if it's a diet cola that has no calories, I still think it's bad.

I didn't stop at sodas though. I decided to eliminate any foods from my diet that had cane sugar or artificial sweeteners. I would get my sweet fix from fruits, and I really came to enjoy them.

Exercise is the other part of the plan, and I've been getting a lot of it. Running at the gym nearly every day of the week, I'm more physically fit than I've ever been. I also love the rush I experience after a nice, long run.

Third, I simply don't eat fried foods anymore. Hard to give up, but it feels great after a few weeks.

This may mean not using your dominant hand (assuming that that's the one that has carpal tunnel syndrome) to brush your teeth, open and close the door, write, type, and so on. And of course, this can be very inconvenient and disabling in and of itself.

The brace might worn for about two weeks, and this treatment may be supplemented with over the counter anti-inflammation pain killers such as Ibuprofen, Tylenol, and the like. The Development Of Airsoft Guns

Airsoft guns are replica firearms that are highly detailed and manufactured mainly for recreation. Games are planned where players try to shoot one another in a similar way to paintball tournaments. The guns fire pellets, as opposed to real bullets, that travel at speeds of up to 260 miles per second.

The pellets are propelled by compressed gas or a spring loaded piston, or sometimes even an electric piston. They are usually made out of rubber or plastic. The gun can be fire manually or else by an electric motor or compressed gas, usually green gas, propane or Co2.

People under the age of sixteen should not use airsoft guns. When they are operated carefully they are completely safe. However, some have muttered concerns about the use of these guns. The pellets they use are normally non-metallic and are traveling at a slow speed. This means that they cannot pierce the flesh. Pellets made of metal are not advertised on any Airsoft site, but they can still be purchased from specialists. It is also possible for someone to manufacture their own metal pellets.

In addition, a non-metallic pellet could penetrate the skin at short distances, when a gun is upgraded to higher than 150 miles per second. Some sites will specify that these kinds of guns should not be used to play with when they have been upgraded in this way. There was also a concern of these guns being used in place of actual weapons during criminal activities.

During the 1990s there was a brief spate of robberies that involved the criminals using fake or replica guns in place of actual guns. Ten years later a new generation of guns arrived, the automatic electric guns designed by Tokyo Marui Co. Ltd. The release of these guns coincided with a recession in Japan. Many Japanese manufacturers folded and eventually the only main producer was the inventor of the automatic electric gun.

Marui then worked to improve the accuracy and range of these guns. It developed an advanced Hop up system, which forms the basis of the modern gun. At the beginning of the 2000s a new company came to challenge Marui's dominance. Classic Army of Hong Kong began to introduce more and more accurate guns to the market. Since then dozens of Chinese brands have flooded the market with more basic entry level guns.

You will need a bar stool or straight chair with straight legs. Sit on the floor with your back against a wall. The stool should be positioned between your feet. Lift your legs and feet 4-6 inches from the floor. Angle your feet so your insteps are firmly positioned against the legs of the stool. Now exert as much pressure with your feet as possible. Hold for a count of 30- 60. Repeat 6 times.

2. Jack Kicks- Kick your way to a better, booty-licious backside. Well, the name may not sound that impressive but if you want that perfectly round, tight booty this is the exercise that works. Assume a hands and knees position. Your palms should be resting on the floor. Keep your back straight. Now lift your (R( leg up and backwards with a tightly controlled kicking motion. When your leg is fully extended upward the bottom of the foot points toward the ceiling. Return to the starting position and then repeat with the other leg for a total of 25-50 for each leg.

3. Saddle Bag Stripper- This exercise will target the upper, outer thighs. You know those unsightly lumps that you can see protruding on the outer sides of your thighs just at the juncture of the butt and thigh have got to go. Lay on your (R) side, supporting your upper body at a 45 degree angle with your elbow. Keep (R) leg straight and place your (L) foot flat on the floor directly in front of the (R) knee. Now lift your (R) leg slowly up and down 25 times. Change position and repeat with the (L) leg.

4. Glute Glamourizer- This will firm and lift your butt and tone your legs. Stand with feet separated about the width of your shoulders. Your toes should be angled outward. Put your hands on your hips and rise up on your toes. Staying balanced on your toes, lower your body 1"inch and hold for the count of 10. Lower your body an additional 1" and hold for the count of 10. Continue to lower your body by 1" and holding for 10 for a total of 10 times.

5. Lean Leggy Peggies- This exercise gives you leaner, tighter legs. Place your hands on the back of a chair for balance. Keep your body erect and feet slightly apart. Toes should pointed inward. Lift (R) leg slowly 4-6 inches straight out to the side . Do 25 reps and then repeat using (L) leg.

6. Tricep Trainers- Get rid of underarm flab quickly. Stand erect holding 3 pound weights. Lift your arms straight up overhead. Your arms should be alongside your head. Slowly extend the weights backward over your shoulders until elbows point to the ceiling. Start over again and repeat 30 times.

7. Belly Bustin' Berthas- These crunches will have your stomach hurting today but flat tomorrow. Lie flat floor hands behind the neck. Pull your abdomen in and roll your upper chest upward from the floor . Twist your torso from the waist so the (R) elbow points toward the (L) knee and the (L) elbow points toward the (R) knee. Return to starting position and do at least 20 reps. The more you do the better

From driving through the window at the local Starbucks to a number of to-go options in malls and shopping centers, coffee isn't so much an experience to be savored, but a substance to be consumed as quickly as possible. It seems that Starbucks has been responsible for introducing concepts like flavors and soy milk to suburban areas, though, and even Dunkin Donuts has had to step up their game and finally offer espresso.

A number of countries are rather relaxed, but others even elevate their culture from simply enjoyable to intellectually important. Over by the university on the left bank of Paris, a number of tourists flock to the cafes where Sarte and other existentialists wrote some of the most important books of the 20th century. In a city like Paris, the caf? lifestyle is about something more than just leisure. It's about valuing the time to think and create on your own, but also thinking that is an exchange that can happen out in public.

A couple of cities in The United States are a better look at what could have been, or rather, what was before Starbucks made carry-out to-go coffee the thing that everyone needed and wanted. At a couple of regal cafes in New York, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco, you'll get laughed out the door if you try to order a "tall" anything. Families who came to the States managed to order large machines from the old country that make seriously great drinks, so it's possible to sit for awhile and enjoy a decent coffee and a sandwich with the other people in the neighborhood who value such things.

It's pretty obvious how things work in The States when you realize that all your coffee comes with is a napkin or a dairy creamer. In other places, where you're encouraged to sit and stay awhile, there's practically a small spread presented with even the most regular cup of joe. In Buenos Aires, cookies, crackers, and some soda water come along, too. In Italy, at least a cookie is expected. In Holland, at least a couple of cookies come, too. And in Paris, if you're going to a cafe to enjoy a coffee, you might actually save money by ordering it with some pastry or croissant item.

And that's the thing about the caf? lifestyle: if you're from a more rushed country, there's something so amazingly freeing about having the time to just hang out and relax and observe somewhere else. Because if you're used to coffee in a cardboard cup that doesn't taste particularly great, it's pretty amazing not just to taste genuinely coffee, but to actually change the pace of your life, even if it's just for a vacation.

Perhaps some of that culture will rub off the places that it doesn't exist already. Starbucks, after all, has made it acceptable to want something with espresso, and maybe the slow food movement in The States will carry over to beverages in public. A number of bloggers and internet fiends are making it slightly more acceptable to sit in a public place and still be a responsible adult, so long as there's a computer in front of you and you look busy.

So the next time you're on the road, be it in your own country or around the world, if you want to get to know a little more about the city or country you're visiting, head to any old cafe. The best way to get acquainted, after all, is by steeping yourself in the caf? lifestyle. Who knows what traditions you might pick up and take home with you.

Learn How to Get Taller Even After Puberty

If you are under the impression that it is impossible to grow taller after puberty, you are wrong! Everybody has the potential to be more than 2-3 inches taller even though you think your bones have already fused. The reason is that a large percentage of the body, the vertebral column, never fuses.

The vertebral column accounts for 35 percent of your height. It is made of 33 bones (vertebrae) out of which 24 are separate. 9 of the lowermost vertebrae are fused into two fixed bones. The 33 movable ones can be stretched out through exercise because the shock-absorbing material between them, the inter-vertebral discs, is expandable.

Given below are 4 of such stretching exercises that help you grow taller after puberty. They exercise the spine, maintain elasticity of the discs and make them turgid with spinal fluid along with boosting blood circulation in the whole spine.

Backward Bend: Lie on your back, on the floor, with arms by the sides and palms pressing against the floor. Raise your feet up and over your head on the other side until they touch the floor above your head. Keep your knees straight. Hold for a few seconds, come back and repeat 3 times.

Spinal Twist on Chair: Sit straight on a chair with feet flat on the floor. Place the left ankle on the right knee. Let your hands hang by the sides. Breathe in and stretch your upper trunk over the left ankle. Take 10 deep breaths. Relax with each breath. Repeat with change in leg positions.

Cobra Pose: Lie on the floor on your stomach, with arms by the sides and hands close to your chest. Tighten your buttocks, breathe in and raise up your head and chest as far up as possible. Hold for a few breaths, come down and repeat 3-4 times. It is important to tighten the glutes in order to protect the lower back.

Shoulder Release on Chair: Sit straight on a chair with feet flat on the floor and arms resting on your thighs. Breathe in slowly and roll your shoulders up to the earlobes. Breathe out slowly and roll them down. Feel the stretch in your spine. Do 5 full circles. So these were four excellent stretching exercises on how to increase height.

Follow these stretches along with regular aerobic exercise, proper nutrition and deep sleep to gain in height even if you have long passed puberty.

Where Do Free Radicals Come From?

One of the most plausible theories on aging is based on the accumulation of damage caused by Free Radicals, which are basically unstable molecules (a few electrons missing in orbit). A free radical will steal electrons from nearby molecules which in turn create new free radicals and in so doing can set up a chain reaction within the cell that will eventually damage it. It is through the accumulation of damaged cells which essentially clutter up our systems and interfere with their proper operation that - according to my very oversimplified explanation of this theory - we age

Antioxidants are nature's answer to free radicals. These are molecules that are capable of donating an electron to a free radical without becoming unstable themselves. They halt the chain reaction and prevent the damage.

Our bodies are machines and like other machines, the breakdowns start small (at the level of our cells) and build up until systems - like our immune system or respiratory system or nervous system - can no longer function properly with so many little bits of them clogged with cellular garbage and just not working properly.

So where do they come from? There are two main sources of free radicals - one source is the outside environment - think of pollution and cigarette smoke and the host of toxic substances that we inflict on our bodies. And then on the other hand there are the free radicals that are made by our own bodies.

We produce free radicals through four different mechanisms.

Out metabolism burns oxygen to create energy. Ideally we would completely convert oxygen molecules to water, but there are by products - free radicals.

Oxidants - which are free radicals are actually useful to our bodies in some ways. For example the white blood cells in our immune system actually use oxidants to combat parasites, viruses and bacteria. This process exposes our own cells to the oxidants as well. We also produce hydrogen peroxide (another free radical) as a byproduct of the break down of fatty acids. Some molecules of hydrogen peroxide escape from the antioxidants that are present and should have broken it down, and instead go on to ravage other nearby cells.

These processes are always going on in our body and happening in millions of cells. It's no small wonder that antioxidant supplements have become so popular and no small miracle that our body also produces some superb antioxidants like glutathione and CoEnzymeQ10 to help us deal with them.

The final process through which our body produces free radicals - that age us - is the same process that's also one of our primary defenses against drugs, pesticides and other toxic foreign chemicals. There is an enzyme called cytochrome P450 which our body uses for this job, but in calling up a supply of this enzyme, the body also produces oxidants - more free radicals. You can see what a double whammy drugs, pesticides and external toxic substances are- not only do they damage us in and of themselves, it ages us to fight them.

If you're interested in helping your body combat the damaging effects of free radicals, you need to support your supply of antioxidants. Some antioxidants, like Vitamins C and E can be supplemented and unquestionably a good diet is very important. Other antioxidants like Glutathione cannot be supplied as a supplement although you can nourish your body with the precursors -raw materials- to produce it yourself.

90 Degree Forward Bend: With feet hip-width apart and hands behind the neck, bend forward slowly as much as possible. Push your head with your hands to stretch to the maximum. Return to starting position when you have gone as far down as possible. Perform 5 more times.

Warrior Pose: Begin with feet 4-5 feet apart and arms straight up over the head. Turn your left foot 90 degrees left and right foot by 45 degrees also to the left. Bend at the left knee until the knee is exactly over the ankle. Now lower your arms and stabilize them at shoulder length. Hold for a few breaths and reverse positions.

Spine Lengthener: Starting in normal standing position, swing your arms up above your head, lift your heels, fan out your toes, and stretch your neck backwards all in one smooth movement. Reach up higher and higher. Perform this 10 times, at the end of all how to become taller exercises, holding each stretch for a few seconds.

Apart from stretching exercises like yoga and Pilates, you also need to boost growth hormones through exercise to achieve your height goals. Employ intense aerobic exercises like sprinting, swimming or kicking for this purpose and perform these 5 exercises after that for the best results.

There are a lot of different sporting events that you might use a stopwatch in, and these are just a few. So what other considerations should you make before buying a stopwatch? Normally people don't believe that they need to read a manual to use a stopwatch, but it is a good thing to have when you come across a function that you don't recognize. Therefore, if the stopwatch comes with a nice, big, clearly written manual, then that one should be chosen over similar models with a bad manual written in a foreign language.

Reishi Extract - A Traditional Chinese Medicinal Mushroom

Reishi extract is commonly used in Oriental Medicine as almost a cure-all. Both medical practitioners and regular people use it for things as innocent as stress and the common cold to more serious afflictions like asthma and cancer.

Working with cancer research at the Linus Pauling Institute of Science & Medicine is Dr. Fukumi Morishige, a strong proponent for the use of reishi in cancer treatment.

The following case reports were given by Dr. Morishige in a speech re-printed in the periodical, Chinese Traditional Medicine Part III.

Being a native of Japan, Dr. Morishige was familiar with reishi before becoming aware of its potential in cancer treatment. But his attitude was essentially the same as any other trained medical professional. He believed it might have some marginal effect on certain non-terminal conditions but dismissed any claims regarding cancer as exaggerated. That is, until two of his cancer patients related their stories of using reishi to self-remediate their conditions.

First was a 39-year-old woman with lung carcinoma. The hospitals she had visited all told her she was too far gone and there was nothing they could do to help her. As a serious secondary complication, she also exhibited chest cavity edema. None-the-less, by the time she had her first appointment with Dr. Morishige, the symptoms of her illness had disappeared. The woman credited her recovery to the use of reishi, which her husband had administered to her at 4 grams per day.

The second case was a young boy suffering from congenital liver cancer. At the age of 5, his attending physician determined that the condition was terminal and discontinued any further treatment. At 9 years of age, the boy's parents brought him to see Dr. Morishige who could then find no remaining traces of the cancer. The parents explained to Dr. Morishige that they had been feeding their son reishi via a naso-gastric tube. It was at this point Dr. Morishige determined that reishi's effect on cancer deserved further study.

Listed below are five of Dr. Morishige's cases. Reishi and Vitamin C (for side effects) was used:

Case 1: A patient with a 5 cm (2 in.) brain tumor who had lost consciousness was placed on 6 gm of reishi per day in June of '86. By September, this 70-year-old-male patient had emerged from his comatose state. The reishi was decreased to 3 gm per day. Another three months later, December of 1986, scans showed diminishing size of the tumor. After it shrunk to 1 cm (0.4 in.), the hospital released the man to return home and live with his family.

Case 2: A 50+ female with metastatic lung cancer and hemoptysis (coughing up blood) began a regimen of 6 gm/day of reishi. Six months later, the tumor had disappeared. And whereas before she had experienced severe shortness of breath, she could now effortlessly climb stairs.

Case 3: A woman with breast cancer and metastatic bone cancer suffered excruciating pain and an inability to move below the neck. Dr. Morishige started her out on 9 gm/day of reishi and then increased it to 20 gm/day. In two months, the patient was free from pain, able to walk, and was released from the hospital.

Case 4: A male patient with rectal cancer and liver metastasis began using 6 gm of reishi per day. After six months, CT scans showed diminished tumor size and patient demonstrated improved general health.

Case 5: A 60-year-old male diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer with a short remaining life expectancy began 9 gm/day of reishi orally, in combination with 30 gm/day of Vitamin C intravenously. One year later, he was completely symptom free and back to work. He continued using 5 gm/day of reishi after being released from the hospital.

Fats are a group of chemical compounds that contain fatty acids. Energy is stored in the body mostly in the form of fat. Fat is needed in the diet to supply essential fatty acids, substances essential for growth but not produced by the body itself. There are three main types of fatty acids: saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. All fatty acids are molecules composed mostly of carbon and hydrogen atoms. A saturated fatty acid has the maximum possible number of hydrogen atoms attached to every carbon atom. It is therefore said to be "saturated" with hydrogen atoms. Some fatty acids are missing one pair of hydrogen atoms in the middle of the molecule. This gap is called an "unsaturation" and the fatty acid is said to be "monounsaturated" because it has one gap. Fatty acids that are missing more than one pair of hydrogen atoms are called "polyunsaturated."



Cholesterol is transported in the bloodstream in large molecules of fat and protein called lipoproteins. Cholesterol carried in low-density lipoproteins is called LDL-cholesterol; most cholesterol is of this type. Cholesterol carried in high-density lipoproteins is called HDL-cholesterol. A person's cholesterol "number" refers to the total amount of cholesterol in the blood. Cholesterol is measured in milligrams per decilitre (mg/dl) of blood. (A decilitre is a tenth of a litre.)



Another misconception is that people can improve their cholesterol numbers by eating "good" cholesterol. In food, all cholesterol is the same. In the blood, whether cholesterol is "good" or "bad" depends on the type of lipoprotein that's carrying it.

Some research has shown that omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish such as salmon and mackerel as well as in soybean and canola oil, lower both LDL-cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. Some nutrition experts recommend eating fish once or twice a week to reduce heart disease risk. However, dietary supplements containing concentrated fish oil are not recommended because there is insufficient evidence that they are beneficial and little is known about their long-term effects.

One drawback to these patches is that they aren't cheap, and they also don't address every reason smokers may smoke. They can be inconvenient to wear, and they can irritate the skin where they've been placed as well.

A psychological approach to quitting smoking can also be helpful. For example, some people may decide to quit smoking by gradually scaling back the number of cigarettes they smoke in a day. For example, they may start by scaling down one cigarette a day, getting used to that new lower number, and then dropping an additional cigarette once comfortable at the new lower level. Still other people decide to quit by keeping an unopened pack of cigarettes around "just in case" even though they've quit. Just the psychological support of having the pack available if they need it is support enough to keep them away from smoking.

There are also other methods to quitting smoking, such as vitamins and herbs supplements, and other treatments. Again, most of these work for some people, but quitting is hard regardless and may not work for all people.

If you would rather take care of your carpal tunnel syndrome without having to try to quit smoking, there are exercises available that can diminish the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome if you have them, and that can prevent you from getting carpal tunnel syndrome if you don't have it. In some cases, these excises may be able to reverse damage that's already been done.
