How Should I Prevent Bruising Altogether?

By Jan Doan

Some people bruise a lot more easily than others, but we all tend to bruise more easily as we get older. When we get older we have less protection below the skin and therefore bruise more easily. These bruises may not pose any health risks but regardless there are ways to prevent them from occurring and things that you can do help them heal when they do occur. After reading this you should never need to ask 'what can i do to prevent bruising altogether' again.

First up, ensure that your skin is protected. If you enjoy to go out on your skateboard then get some protective clothing that will keep you safe. For any activity that you are keen on that may put you in danger of getting a knock, get protecting gear. Also, in your general life make sure that you are always vigilant and watchful so that you don't go bumping into people and objects around you. For those that bruise really easily, a simply knock on the arm can create a big bruise. Ensure that you are constantly mindful of your surroundings at all times and avoid places where you might consider yourself to be in danger of such things.

You also need to make sure that you get a sufficient amount of vitamin K in your diet. A lack of this particular vitamin can make the blood not clot properly which can lead to an excessive amount of bruising. Vitamin k is prevalent in green vegetables such as broccoli so you should try to get as much of this into your diet as possible.

Bruising can also be as a result of a lack of vitamin C. You should therefore make sure that you get as much of this into your diet as you can by eating lots of different fruits and drinking lots of fruit juice. A multivitamin supplement is a great way of making sure that you get your entire daily quota of vitamins in one go.

There is only so much you can do to make sure that you do not bruise but naturally you will bruise from time to time whatever you do. You can use something called arnica cream on a bruise when this does happen. Rub this in several times each day to the affected area.

You can also use hydrotherapy. All you need for this is a couple of cloths. Soak one in cold water and another in hot. Then put the hot one on your bruise and leave it for three minutes before removing it and placing the cold on on the bruise for thirty seconds. Repeat this about four times daily until your notice the bruise disappear.

Finally, try aromatherapy on the affected area. Rub some of the oils in the skin and then cover with a bandage, although not too tightly.

These are the sorts of things that you can do to both prevent and treat bruises.
